Food and Water are big problems on the Navajo Nation

ImageThe sad reality...

Due to the scarcity of grocery stores, almost one in three members on the Navajo Nation are diabetic or pre diabetic.   Most Navajos live over 100 miles away from grocery stores, leaving unhealthy food options as the only option.  This food desert can be easily solved through age old farming tactics called Permaculture.

Cost effective solutions...

Permaculture farms create an oasis in the desert by using age old methodologies.  By leveraging the power of nature through the implementation of swail water infiltration systems, we harness the rain water.  Throughout this process, Navajo labor installs trees and takes care of the land.  Within a short period of time, fruit and nut bearing trees provide rich nutrients for the community.

If we can install more Permaculture farms, we can reduce the diabetes problems on the Navajo Nation.

With those additional funds we can provide scholarships to local Navajo's interested in farming careers.
